The photovoltaic (PV) system aims to cover 86% of the electricity usage at the American Scrap Metals North Building. Initially, the system has a DC rating of 28.08kW, but it can be expanded to 56.16kW to fulfill both current and future environmental goals. This setup complies with the Buy American Provision of the ARRA.
The system includes 117 solar modules, each rated at 240 watts, mounted on a standing seam roof. These panels are arranged into nine strings, with each string comprising 13 modules. The project employs SMA Sunny Boy 8000US inverters, with three strings linked to each inverter, totaling three inverters. The anticipated annual energy production of the system is approximately 35,121 kilowatt-hours. According to the EPA Greenhouse Gas Equivalence Calculator, this energy production corresponds to one of the following:
1- Offsetting 53,391 pounds of carbon dioxide
2- Removing 4.7 passenger vehicles from the road each year
3- Avoiding the consumption of 2,715 gallons of gasoline
4- Planting 621 trees
This project exemplifies American Scrap Metals’ commitment to sustainable building practices.
